Cora Menu With Prices in Canada

Cora names things the way nobody else does. A "crêpomelette" is not a typo, "Eggs Ben et Dictine" is a deliberate pun, and the plates are named after people — Gigi, Theo, Rosemary, Jessica Born in 89. Once you know what those words mean, the 154-item menu makes a lot more sense, and so does why the average item here is $13.78.

The vocabulary, decoded

A crêpomelette is an omelette folded into a crêpe. There are exactly three — Chorizo and Goat Cheese, Spinach and Cheddar, and Western-Cheddar — and all three cost $19.25.

Eggs Ben et Dictine is Cora's spelling of eggs benedict, and it is the one section on the menu that lets you buy eggs by the unit. One egg is $17.45, two is $19.45, three is $21.45, and that $2 step is identical whether you take the ham, the spinach-and-goat-cheese or the tomato-bacon version. Smoked salmon sits on its own ladder: $19.65, $21.65, $24.65 — that last figure being the most expensive plate on the menu.

A skillet is a hot pan dish rather than a plate. Five of them, and four are $19.25 — 10-star, Beyond Meat, Halloumi-Chorizo and Burger in a Skillet — with Smoked Meat Skillet at $21.25.

Sweet'n Salty is the sweet-and-savoury combination section, and it is the flattest on the menu: all seven plates are $20.35, from Gabriel Who's Crazy For Triple Chocolate Pancakes to Strawberry Avalanche for Fannie.

What the side you choose actually costs

Several dishes are listed twice with different accompaniments, and the difference is always the fruit. Tuna Melt with Potatoes is $16.15 and with Fruit $18.25. Smoked Meat Panini is $22.35 with potatoes and $24.65 with fresh fruit. Bagel and Lox: $19.25 and $21.35. Reading down the Eggs section, the same logic applies — 2 Eggs with potatoes is $13.45, the same 2 Eggs with fruit is $15.45.

That $2 swap is worth knowing because the plain egg plates are the cheapest full breakfasts here. One, two or three eggs with an accompaniment and potatoes are $12.95, $13.45 and $13.95 respectively, against the named plates — Jo Construction, Cora's Special, Rosemary's Sunday, Gargantuan Breakfast — which run $19.25 to $21.15.

Where the sub-$10 items live

Only 56 of 154 items are under $10, and they cluster in two places. The Kids Menu is 13 items between $8.15 and $9.65, priced within $1.50 of each other. A Little Extra! is the 23-item add-on list: Pure Maple Syrup at $0.75 is the cheapest thing Cora sells, cream cheese is $1.45, and the meats — bacon, ham, sausage, bologna, cretons, baked beans — are $3.95 each across the board. Cora-style Poutine as an extra is $5.25.

Beverages fill most of the rest. Regular coffee and tea are $2.95, juices $3.35 to $4.55, and the three smoothies — Strawberry-Banana, Mango-Banana, Kale-Banana — are all $5.75. A Bowl of Fresh Fruit on its own is $6.45.

Do prices vary across Canada?

Cora restaurants are franchised, and the chain's footprint is weighted towards Quebec and Ontario with different local costs behind the same plate. A Montreal dining room and a Vancouver one can list the same crêpe at different figures, and some seasonal lines — the Rebel Festival items, for example — are not carried everywhere or all year.
