The Bento Box heading at Edo Japan covers 27 items, and it is doing double duty. Half of it is teriyaki-grill bentos from $15.50 to $21.00; the other half is sushi-roll bentos from $10.95 to $13.45. Reading the section as one thing will cost you about five dollars of confusion, which is roughly what a bento adds to the same dish served as a rice meal.
Take Teriyaki Chicken. As a Rice Meal it is $11.95. As a Teriyaki Chicken Bento it is $16.75 — $4.80 more. Sukiyaki Beef goes $12.50 to $16.75, and Hawaiian Chicken the same, so the upgrade is $4.25 there. Fresh Grilled Vegetables move from $11.00 to $15.50. Across the grill line the bento surcharge sits between roughly $4.25 and $4.80, consistently.
The sushi bentos operate on entirely different numbers. Cali, Veggie Roll and Yam Roll Bento Boxes are $10.95; Dynamite and Beef Roll are $11.95; Volcano and Tiger are $13.45. Those are the cheapest full meals Edo sells, undercutting even the least expensive Rice Meal, the $11.00 Fresh Grilled Vegetables.
Rice meals: what protein costs
The thirteen Rice Meals are where the pricing logic is easiest to see. Tofu Teriyaki $11.50, Fresh Grilled Vegetables $11.00 and Veggie Chop Chop Bowl $12.50 anchor the bottom. Single-protein dishes run $11.95 to $13.95. Doubling up costs real money: Chicken & Shrimp is $16.20 and Beef & Shrimp $16.75, the two dearest items in the section, while Chicken & Beef stays at $12.50.
Noodle Meals cover the same ground for a dollar or so more — Chicken Yakisoba $12.95, Beef Yakisoba $13.50, Shrimp Noodlefull Bowl $14.50 — and the five ramen soups run $11.00 for vegetable to $13.00 for shrimp.
Rolls by the piece, and the platter arithmetic
Every roll is sold in a 4-piece and an 8-piece portion, and doubling the count never quite doubles the price. California, Veggi and Yam Rolls go $4.45 to $6.45; Dynamite and Beef $5.00 to $7.45; Surf & Turf, Volcano and Tiger $5.95 to $8.95. Six-piece Cucumber and Avocado Rolls are $4.20.
Scale further and the discount deepens sharply. The Banzai Platter is $55.00 for 46 pieces, about $1.20 a piece. The Hanguri is $67.00 for 70 pieces, about 96 cents. The Edo Platter — $85.00 for 120 pieces, and the most expensive thing on the menu — works out near 71 cents a piece, well under half what a 4-piece Volcano Roll costs per bite.
The small end
Sides and Snacks is where the sub-$5 items cluster: a single Spring Roll at $2.10, two for $3.95, three Gyoza for $3.95 and five for $5.15, three Tempura Shrimp for $4.95 and five for $6.95, a side of white or brown rice at $4.25, Edamame at $4.75. Kids Meals are all $7.95. Drinks run from a $1.85 juice box and a $1.95 small fountain pop to $4.95 for the bubble teas. And the teriyaki sauce is sold to take home — $6.95 for one 350ml bottle, $20.00 for three.
Do prices vary across Canada?
Edo Japan is a franchised chain with a footprint weighted towards Western Canada, and individual owners set their own board prices — mall food-court units in particular tend to differ from standalone restaurants. Nothing here includes GST, HST or PST. What holds steady is the internal structure: a roughly $4.50 step from a rice meal to the equivalent bento, a per-piece price that falls as the sushi platter grows, and a real premium for shrimp.
