Canada Restaurant Price Index: What Menu Items Really Cost in 2026
This index is computed from the 13,654 priced menu items across the 95 Canadian restaurant chains listed on this site, as published in August 2026. Every number below is arithmetic over those listed prices — no estimates, no survey, no "starting at". Where a chain publishes only delivery prices, its page says so; those prices are included as listed.
The headline numbers
- The median listed menu item in Canada costs $10.25; the average is $13.63, pulled up by family-size and group formats.
- 3,528 items (26%) are listed under $5, and 6,758 (49%) under $10.
- 2,785 items (20%) are listed at $20 or more — mostly pizzas, group bundles and seafood.
What a typical item costs, by cuisine
Median listed price per cuisine, for every cuisine where we hold at least 100 priced items. The median is the better yardstick here: a $99 party bundle moves an average, but not the price of the thing most people actually order.
| Cuisine | Chains | Priced items | Median price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Burgers | 6 | 1,057 | $4.59 |
| Café & Coffee | 5 | 1,574 | $5.45 |
| Fast Food | 4 | 258 | $6.49 |
| Mexican & Tex-Mex | 5 | 343 | $6.95 |
| Bakery & Desserts | 4 | 585 | $8.49 |
| Japanese & Sushi | 2 | 354 | $8.95 |
| Chicken | 9 | 1,089 | $9.00 |
| Juice & Smoothie Bar | 2 | 183 | $9.03 |
| Subs & Sandwiches | 4 | 391 | $9.30 |
| Healthy & Fresh | 2 | 193 | $9.49 |
| BBQ & Grill | 1 | 119 | $9.99 |
| Breakfast & Brunch | 6 | 734 | $12.00 |
| Indian | 1 | 122 | $13.00 |
| Chinese | 3 | 425 | $14.10 |
| Irish Pub | 1 | 149 | $14.50 |
| Italian | 2 | 223 | $15.00 |
| Donairs & Shawarma | 1 | 165 | $15.58 |
| Seafood | 1 | 116 | $16.49 |
| Asian & Himalayan | 2 | 166 | $16.74 |
| Pizza | 16 | 3,747 | $17.36 |
| Canadian Casual | 11 | 1,251 | $17.49 |
| Steakhouse | 2 | 208 | $17.50 |
The spread is nearly 4× between the cheapest cuisine and the priciest: the median burger-chain item lists at $4.59 while the median steakhouse or casual-dining item lists above $17. Pizza sits high not because a slice is expensive but because a listed "item" is usually a whole pie.

How to read this index
- Every figure is computed from prices as the restaurants publish them; most exclude tax, and franchised locations vary by store and province.
- Delivery-sourced menus (marked on their pages) run above counter prices and are included as listed.
- The underlying rows are all public: every chain in this index links to its full item-by-item menu on this site.
We will recompute this index as menus are re-checked. If a number looks off against what a restaurant currently publishes, use the correction form on that restaurant's page. The full directory behind the index is at every restaurant menu we list.
