Original Joe’s Menu With Prices In Canada

Original Joe's prices in quarters. Sides are $3.25, kids' plates are $7.50, desserts are $7.75, an Original Burger is $18.25 and a Beef Dip is $23.50 — the whole 77-item menu is built on .00, .25, .50 and .75, and there is not a single price ending in .99 anywhere on it.

The burger and handheld section is the busiest part of the menu and the tightest band on it. Fourteen items run from $18.25 for the Original Burger to $23.50 for the Beef Dip, a spread of just over five dollars. The three crispy chicken burgers show how small the steps are: Classic and Spicy are both $21.00, and the Ghost Pepper version is $22.50. An Impossible Burger at $19.50 is cheaper than every beef burger except the Original.

Mains overlap that band rather than sitting above it. A Teriyaki Rice Bowl is $16.50 and 1 Piece Fish & Chips is $17.00 — both less than most burgers — while the Steak Sandwich at $26.00 is the priciest single plate on the menu.

Sides are where the value is

Twelve sides, and eight of them are $3.25 or $3.50: homecut and crinkle fries at $3.50, veggies and dip, coleslaw, mixed greens, Caesar, mashed potatoes and sesame brown rice at $3.25. A cup of tomato bacon soup is $4.75, poutine $5.75, sweet potato fries $6.00, onion rings $5.25 as a side against $12.00 as a shareable. Ordering onion rings off the wrong section of the menu therefore costs you $6.75 for what is, portion aside, the same food.

Kids and bundles, the two flat rates

All five kids' items are exactly $7.50 — cheeseburger, chicken tenders, grilled cheese, mac and cheese, chicken and broccoli rice bowl. No child's plate costs more than any other.

At the other end, the Bundles & Meal Kits section is the only place the menu goes past $30: a Game Day Platter at $59.00, a Wing Bundle at $65.00 and a Family Pasta Bundle at $69.00, which is the highest number here. The two dips in that section, Dill Dip and Balsamic Bleu Cheese Vinaigrette, are $5.00 each.

Of the 29 items under $10, most are those sides and kids' plates. The cheapest lines on the board are Coke and Diet Coke at $2.50 — there are only two soft drinks listed — followed by the $3.25 sides.

Do prices vary across Canada?

Original Joe's trades across several provinces and its restaurants are individually operated, so the board in Calgary and the board in Ontario will not read the same — the alcohol lines especially, since provincial liquor pricing drives them. Bundles and meal kits also change. Add sales tax, and a gratuity if you are eating in.
